The word ‘Pichhwai’ is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘Pich’ meaning Back and ‘Wais’ meaning Hanging. These are cloth paintings hung behind the image of Lord Krishna also known as Shrinathji, from the holy town of Nathdwara in Rajasthan. The purpose of Pichhwai art is to narrate and popularize the tales of Krishna and his exploits.
These paintings have rich embroideries with vibrant colours like red, yellow, green, white and black. A unique feature of the Pichhwai art is the usage of gold elements to decorate the paintings. As these paintings are offerings to Lord Krishna, the artists paint them with immense devotion.

Shivraj Singh has never let obstacles deter him from following his passion for creating sculptures. Despite his physical challenges from birth and intense family opposition, he followed his dream. With his mother’s unflinching support and his own determination, today he is a successful sculptor. He has also completed his BFA (Sculpture) and MFA (Sculpture) from Delhi College of Art.
Shivraj believes in sharing his talent and skill. He has organized several camps in slum areas in Delhi to teach young children the art of making sculptures. He states, “It gives me great joy to see children exploring this art and carrying forward what I learnt.”
